1930s Gearbox Bike - Restoration
We found this super rare German 2-Speed WW2 bicycle in the basement of an old Bavarian country house and now we're bringing it back to the road again.
The most exciting part is for sure the gearbox, which is pretty rare so see and very exciting to restore.
You also need to replace damaged parts with a 3D-printer?
Then have a look at our partner Bambulab bambulab.com
Short Q&A:
- No repaint, we like the patina as it is. It also fits better into our workshop.
- Restoration is in our mind a direct action on the object with the aim of making it work again, but to keep the character of the object. In doing so, its aesthetic, historical and physical characteristics are respected as much as possible.

We found this old German (Pre-)WW2 bicycle in the basement of an old Bavarian country house and now we're bringing it back to the road again. This video idea came to us in the middle of the restoration process - that's why part 0, 1 and 2 are very short and just for demonstration purposes. Want more of this content?.... Wow.

    You don't check the bearings play, no gasket sealant on the main gear box body - I guess this is going to be a museum piece from now on.

    The title of this video should have been "disassembling and reassembling Rusty bicycle". I failed to see the restoration. You left it rusty, you put rusty parts back into the hub assembly.

    I was floored to see that the front break just pushes down on the tire instead of the rim. Crazy! This was really satisfying to watch as someone who used to do a ton of this kind of work 10 years ago. Hopefully I can get back into it before too long.

    Anybody know what that nut is called at 05:42? I’m looking for a replacement as I am also restoring one of these but for the life of it I can’t remember it’s name. Cheers

    • @forgottenthings
      @forgottenthings 3 дні тому

      We also do not know the name, but it would also work if you make this nut on your own or buy a nut with the same measurements and file it to the right size.

    IS that really 1930's ? Some things about it that just dont appear to be from that era

    • @forgottenthings
      @forgottenthings 3 дні тому

      It is from 1936. You can read it on the rear wheel as well from the frame number. Why do you think that it is not from this time?

    Çok beğendim ama anlayamadığım bir şey var. Ön fren nasıl çalışıyor. Lastiğin üzerine mi baskı uyguluyor. Normalde v frenlerde janta baskı uygulanırdı.

      Yes, the pressure is applied to the tyre. As well you have the brake in the rear wheel.

    Respect for your work! I mention, quality things were manufactured 30, 40, 50 years ago, for my generation the bikes with brake bushings on the hub were a pain, tightening with a butterfly for adjustment, pinions with contrafixes in which they were periodically adjusted! Probably we didn't have quality things in the market! I mention that between the 1920s, 1930s and 1950s, a bicycle was a great asset, the bicycle's documents were circulated as well as the identity card!

    non si usano piu" i cambi ad ingranaggi, perche"ogni coppia di ingranaggi non trasmette il 100nper cento del lavoro ma al max il 98. quindi si perde del lavoro. meglio cambiare corona o rocchetto

    Indian Inventor Modi Harami is credited with developing the first bicycle. His machine, known as the "Gau Mutr," hit the road in 1817. This early bicycle had no pedals, and its frame was a wooden beam. The device had two wooden wheels with iron rims and leather-covered tires.

    Пачитал каменты, меня удивляет одна весч. куда наши деды в 45ом году сматрели? не углядели и не вывезли сей раритет по репарациям. безобразие. В России о таком раритете мы бы щас видоса о восстановлении не сматрели бы. факт. p. s. при разборке вроде демпфер был реализован у вилки, а при сборке я не видел , что бы он его обратна ставил
