1930s Gearbox Bike - Restoration
We found this super rare German 2-Speed WW2 bicycle in the basement of an old Bavarian country house and now we're bringing it back to the road again.
The most exciting part is for sure the gearbox, which is pretty rare so see and very exciting to restore.
You also need to replace damaged parts with a 3D-printer?
Then have a look at our partner Bambulab bambulab.com
Short Q&A:
- No repaint, we like the patina as it is. It also fits better into our workshop.
- Restoration is in our mind a direct action on the object with the aim of making it work again, but to keep the character of the object. In doing so, its aesthetic, historical and physical characteristics are respected as much as possible.

We rescued this 70 year old drill press from trash and are now bringing it back to life! The drill press was for free and the total costs for the restoration were about 180€ (200$). Short Q&A: - No repaint, we like the patina as it is. It also fits better into our workshop. - Restoration is in our mind a direct action on the object with the aim of making it work again, but to keep the character...
Barnfind German Bike - Restoration - Look How This Old German Bike Is Driving Again!

We found this old German (Pre-)WW2 bicycle in the basement of an old Bavarian country house and now we're bringing it back to the road again. This video idea came to us in the middle of the restoration process - that's why part 0, 1 and 2 are very short and just for demonstration purposes. Want more of this content?.... 🤤👎
I watched at 1.5 speed and I'm impressed. That bicycle was built to last and it has,it needed that refurbish.
Great job 👏 ❤
Hello dear those bicycle are vintage one I it's like you as a hard time fixing it,but it Worth fixing thank just remind me back in to the days long time ago but
But I it's here again I'm glad 😊😊😊
Excuse me, why haven't you done paint job?
Wow.
Here is the golden mean. This machine is not over restored.
super...
Excellent video and restoration. But, I can't help but wonder why both sides of the crankshaft are left hand threads
BEAUTIFOUL 🥰🇨🇱🥰🇨🇱🥰🇨🇱🥰🇨🇱🥰🇨🇱
You don't check the bearings play, no gasket sealant on the main gear box body - I guess this is going to be a museum piece from now on.
These bicycles are made to last.
1:18 when seeing the symbol, I have a strong feeling that this is a german bike..
I m 2x Speed watching 😂😂😂
The title of this video should have been "disassembling and reassembling Rusty bicycle". I failed to see the restoration. You left it rusty, you put rusty parts back into the hub assembly.
Thank you for this inconvenient feedback. Could you explain in detail, why this is no restoration as we declared in the description?
Background is too dark. Hard to make out parts of your project. Impressive work nonetheless
I was floored to see that the front break just pushes down on the tire instead of the rim. Crazy! This was really satisfying to watch as someone who used to do a ton of this kind of work 10 years ago. Hopefully I can get back into it before too long.
Great video - thank you for sharing! I wonder where you get your jumpers from? At 30:40 it seems that you have the need for 3 armed jumpers :D
Nice video!👍
Thank you!
Anybody know what that nut is called at 05:42? I’m looking for a replacement as I am also restoring one of these but for the life of it I can’t remember it’s name. Cheers
We also do not know the name, but it would also work if you make this nut on your own or buy a nut with the same measurements and file it to the right size.
Thanks a lot?
Thanks! Yes that is really sad!
A beautiful bike.
amazing
Fantastic restoration with great equipment and knowledge. Fantastic looking bike . Well done. 🎉
Thank you so much for your feedback!
IS that really 1930's ? Some things about it that just dont appear to be from that era
It is from 1936. You can read it on the rear wheel as well from the frame number. Why do you think that it is not from this time?
Amazing!
Yes, the pressure is applied to the tyre. As well you have the brake in the rear wheel.
Dlaczego ten ASMR jest taki wciągający?
Love the surgical table installation🤌👍
Thank you!
Respect for your work! I mention, quality things were manufactured 30, 40, 50 years ago, for my generation the bikes with brake bushings on the hub were a pain, tightening with a butterfly for adjustment, pinions with contrafixes in which they were periodically adjusted! Probably we didn't have quality things in the market! I mention that between the 1920s, 1930s and 1950s, a bicycle was a great asset, the bicycle's documents were circulated as well as the identity card!
Thank you very much!
Its called Wanderer, its an old German brand.
What is the orange rubber on the top tube for? Thx.
So you can lean the bike against a pole e.g. and the frame does not get damaged.
Indian Inventor Modi Harami is credited with developing the first bicycle. His machine, known as the "Gau Mutr," hit the road in 1817. This early bicycle had no pedals, and its frame was a wooden beam. The device had two wooden wheels with iron rims and leather-covered tires.
This is Magic.
What a labour of love! Beautifully done.
Thank you!
This is one of those bikes you just have to keep and never get rid off. I guess for older folks who are into rustic things.
I wish it wasn't so dark.
Well, just that the chain wasn't the "Weißstern" from Wippermann, the KMC could already be read. But there was something about the drama of pulling her out of a nostalgic chain box...lol
We could simply not use this wonderful chain :)
1930 gear still working because of you...good job that bicycle is legendary.
Great job it looks fantastic
